I suggest that it's becomes possible to contact a moderator / staff member while muted.

I'm currently muted for posting a link the spam-filter-bot didn't allow. It's a harmless link with a story I wanted to share with another chatter. I'm waiting in the room "Muted - Come here". But nothing happens. It would be helpful if I can contact a moderator myself instead of having to wait for someone to notice me or three hours for posting a harmless link.

If no staff are online then there's not really much else to do but wait it out.
 
I am trying to hunt down a staff member and let them know you're in there as well to help out.

The quickest way for us to help you in this situation is (like above has mentioned) use the appeal section on this forum.
Staff check it regularly, someone will be able to help you sooner, if this happens in future.
