Ok I'm going to rant. In the last months ive seen a severe decline in chatters especially in Lobby and Politics. The chatters that were the MOST engaging and had smart views to share were banned on a whim. Hey CM if you're reading this, you need to know that you have certain mods which I won't name that are on some power trip. Meanwhile, its you CM who loses out. Ive been chatting here since 2010---thats 16 years. I have never in the last 16 years seen such a decline in chatters. Politics used to average 15 chatters and now its down to zero. 2 on a good day. Lobby used to be FUN until Ganja and 4merica (among others were banned). Now all we have in lobby are chatters posting memes ALL DAY. Talk about mind numbing. My advice? Not that it matters cause hey, im just a number here. Do a mass unban. People are just people. They make mistakes. Reset. Start over. Lets make the rooms fun again.
 
There’s often more context behind moderation decisions than what’s visible publicly. Actions aren’t based on one moment or taken lightly. There are things that happen outside of what others may see in the room. That’s also why we have an appeals process in place. It gives anyone who feels a decision was unfair the chance to have it reviewed more thoroughly, rather than making broad reversals without context.

Unfortunately, at the end of the day, moderation isn’t just about keeping things active, it’s about keeping things safe, consistent, and fair overall. We do our best to balance that, even though it won’t always line up with what everyone wants or expects.

You want one thing while other chatters want another.
 
There is also the 'Fact' that many times chatters break rules, more then once. Rules are here for reasons. If they feel they have no need to follow the rules then they themself are asking to be banned. People who follow the rules do not have a problem like that. And as many years as I have chatted, chatters come chatters leave new chatters come and some old ones return. I changes how the room is and why they are here. Stop and think about it, if everyone here were identical it would only mean alot of repeat of topic with no variety at all. We do not all like the same things.

to be honest, ganjaguy was batshit crazy, let alone vile to anyone who didn't share his point of view as well as very misogynistic...always talking down and rudely to women....but hey, if u think that's the definition of "fun"....
 
Yes people make mistakes, but if people keep making those mistakes or if it's severe, then they'll get banned. Like Hayleyy mentioned we have an appeals process. This allows admins to review bans and see if a user deserves a second chance. Lots of factors determine who is unbanned and who isn't. It's not simple. It would depend on things like if it was a repeat offense, how severe the offense was, and if we feel they will change and be better based on their appeal.

People may act one way around you, but another way when you're not around. Also when people chat in PMs, you won't even know what they say or do and they could very well be banned due to the contents of a reported PM. You don't get to always see the true nature of someone and how they truly are. You hear about killings and crimes done where the family/friends are in disbelief. They doubt that the person could have done the crime because they're oh so innocent or never showed signs that would lead to the criminal actions. It's similar in this case.

As a former mod, I can say that our staff do a wonderful job. While the staff are human and do make mistakes, it's not often and an appeal would lead to the kick/ban being lifted.

If those users have not already appealed their bans, then I would recommend them to do so. Without an appeal, they won't be unbanned.

Don't attempt to gaslight me. I did not have that experience from him. He may have been doing something right since most of the regulars left right after his ban. He was also extremely kind to an autistic chatter in Lobby. Im no longer discussing this. I vented. End of story.

not trying to gaslight anyone....maybe u should have seen the forum posts where he was threatening to destroy the entire site???

That comment wasn't gaslighting. It is entirely possible he presented whatever he wanted, to whoever he wanted, whenever he wanted. - which is what I believe is the truth. I came back to the site and found him engaging at first. And then he started telling me lies about someone. Hideous, criminal ones. When I chose to believe the truth he started trolling the rooms I was in. He did make some demeaning comments about women (and ethnic groups at times) I saw them. The truth is he spread lies about others and belittled them for attention or to get a laugh. Saying the truth is not gaslighting.
All of us are coming to this place with different backgrounds, different maturity levels, different desires for some things, but we all have the innate and compulsive desire to be heard and understood. I do hear you and understand why you said what you said......I might have felt the same way you did a long time ago....but the truth is he did do stuff that was bannable at the site. It is possible he just didn't do it in front of you.
And as for the comment ^^^just above mine - as ChatMaster and many others have said before, this is a public site. When you post in a public area of a public site, you should be prepared to receive responses from the public which might not always be aligned with yours.

That makes sense and i do agree with you. Im not defending his behavior. It just seems to me that a mod or two ban on a whim. Ive seen it happen and due to that, the numbers in the rooms have decreased. However, even if ive seen it, im just a 'chatter' a 'number'. No one would believe me. I think there are a few mods (not many) but there are some who are on a power trip. Thank you for your response. Well said.
 
To me ganjaguy was a brother sorta of not sure what he did wrong to me he was kind and took time to understand me and others if you gotten to know him better he was chill dude if you were chill and to me took me a while to think of what to type so I did my best so let’s move

I am choosing not to move on lol. What he did was accuse someone of being a pedophile when they aren't one. In fact, that person chooses to take on the people who hurt kids. It's a revolting, disgusting (possibly criminal) lie and he lost my friendship when he did it. When I stopped doing smallish things - like telling him gj in quiz after he got an answer correct, he trolled the quiz room harassing me. He also trolled other rooms harassing people and being a jerk saying sexist, and at times, racist comments. That is the truth whether you choose to believe it or not.
 
My original post was not to advocate for him specifically but more to shed some light on how some mods are banning on a whim. There is a strong decrease in numbers in all of the rooms.
I hardly chat because of it anymore.
